Busia County, Butula Constituency, Ikonzo village – In a shocking incident that unfolded today, a man armed with a machete came dangerously close to fatally harming his wife after a heated argument over their involvement in the newly launched Tumechoka initiative by the Azimio La Umoja Coalition.
The initiative aims to gather signatures to address various concerns raised by citizens, including a bipartisan reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), an audit of the 2022 elections, and an end to the interference with political parties and MPs.
The series of events leading up to this terrifying altercation began just moments after Azimio coalition leader Raila Odinga concluded his speech, allowing Kenyans to access the website and submit their details and signatures.
Following suit, the man swiftly completed the required information, filled in the details, and then approached his wife, who was busy winnowing maize outside their compound.
He urged her to do the same, insisting that she also log in and sign the petition.
However, tension escalated rapidly as the wife hesitated, expressing her unwavering support for President William Ruto and her refusal to heed Raila’s call.
This response infuriated the husband, who stormed back into their house and retrieved a machete, wielding it menacingly in an attempt to intimidate his wife into compliance.
The situation quickly deteriorated, with the wife crying out for help, calling upon neighbors to intervene and defuse the alarming confrontation.
As of the time of writing this article, village elders were still working tirelessly to calm the situation and restore peace.
