Damaris Muriithi is the proprietor of Dama Mobile Spares, a successful repair shop and distributor of mobile phone spares in Nairobi County. She has built her business empire with determination, hard work, and a strong passion for her work.
Damaris initially had no intentions of starting a business. Her original goal was to become a teacher.
However, circumstances led her on a different path. After completing high school, she was invited to Kirinyaga by her aunt, who helped her secure a job selling mobile phone scratch cards, earning her Ksh 1,500.
Later, Damaris moved to Nairobi where she was offered a job selling mobile phone accessories at a shop in Luthuli Avenue. Unfortunately, the business didn’t do well, leading her to look for other opportunities.
She eventually found a job at a mobile phone accessory shop on Munyi Road, where she started gaining interest in the business and developed a passion for it.
Determined to learn more and become successful, Damaris focused on understanding the industry, including suppliers, importing goods, and profit margins. She gained valuable experience and saved money while working for her boss.
In 2016, she decided to take a bold step by quitting her job and starting her own business.
Damaris faced challenges initially, with limited stock and the need to buy from local suppliers. However, she prioritized customer satisfaction by maintaining small profit margins.
Her dedication paid off as her business began to thrive. Within six months, she was able to open a second branch.
Today, Damaris is the proud owner of five branches of Dama Mobile Spares spread across different locations in Nairobi County. Her business has grown significantly, employing over 100 people.
She also expanded her reach by running an e-commerce website, allowing customers outside Nairobi to order mobile phone spares.
Damaris attributes her success to hard work, determination, and her ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
She is grateful for her journey and the support she received along the way, and she continues to manage her business operations efficiently.
