For many, it’s about driving the most expensive cars in the world, like Ferraris, Range Rovers, Rolls Royces, or Lamborghinis. But are these material possessions the true definition of riches?
In my opinion, true wealth is synonymous with freedom. It’s the freedom to pursue your passions, spend time with the people you love, and live life on your own terms.
Indeed, freedom is the ultimate key to being genuinely rich and happy. Thus, your pursuit of money should be driven by the desire for freedom.
Let’s consider a couple of examples to illustrate this point.
Mr. A works either for a large corporation or runs his own business. However, he has to put in grueling 60-hour workweeks. His workplace is rigid, with fixed hours and no room for flexibility. Although he earns Ksh.150,000 per month, he lacks control over his time, actions, and associations.
Now, let’s examine Mr. B. He also works for a company or has his own business, but he enjoys absolute freedom over his schedule. He can choose to start work at 7 am or 11 am, and wrap up at 3 pm or 10 pm. Despite earning Ksh.80,000 per month, he resides in a less expensive town compared to Mr. A, and his purchasing power is nearly on par with Mr. A’s. Additionally, he has complete control over his life.
Now, between these two men, who do you believe is truly richer? While many might assume that the one earning Ksh.150,000 is wealthier, the reality is that true wealth lies in having the freedom to live life on your own terms.
