Born into adversity with the loss of her mother in 1996, Mary found solace and guidance under the wings of her grandparents, particularly her no-nonsense grandfather, who instilled in her a profound emphasis on the transformative power of education.
Her grandfather’s determination became the driving force behind Mary’s academic journey, ensuring not only her excellence in studies but also instilling in her the value of pushing one’s limits.
Mary reflects on her upbringing, stating, “My father’s stern approach left no room for me to treat education lightly; it was a matter he took very seriously.”
High school became a pivotal platform for Mary, inspired by the impressive precedents set by her cousin and elder uncles who excelled in their academic pursuits.
As she stepped onto the higher education path, Mary’s trajectory initially led her to Jomo Kenyatta University of Agricultural and Technology (JKUAT) to pursue a degree in actuarial science. However, her grandfather’s wisdom redirected her towards a Bachelor of Commerce, a decision that would significantly shape her future.
“Although I had been admitted to JKUAT for actuarial science, my grandfather had other plans. He insisted I follow in the footsteps of my cousin, who had secured a prestigious job while in university,” Mary recalls.
Unveiling her potential, Mary embarked on a professional journey that spanned continents and industries. Her early career included a role as an accountant at Jubilee Insurance, where she completed her CPAK certification.
However, Mary’s ambitions reached even greater heights, leading her to pursue a master’s in Business Analytics in the United States in 2020.
Her corporate experience expanded across renowned institutions, including roles at JP Morgan Chase, Mind24-7, and eventually Apple, one of America’s premier tech giants.
At Apple, Mary found herself as a senior Business Analyst and Database Developer, all the while pursuing her master’s in Business Analytics at Grand Canyon University.
Mary’s achievements at Apple ignited a new passion within her – a drive to empower immigrants to excel in the dynamic US tech industry. Teaming up with Professor Erick Kamamba, she co-founded DMK IT Solutions School of Analytics.
This institution became a beacon for aspiring individuals, equipping them with skills in Data Analytics, Business Analysis, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.
The school’s notable alumni have secured positions in esteemed corporate American giants such as Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Deloitte, Apple, Chase Bank, among others.
