On Tuesday morning, detectives in Kitale rescued the baby, who was found dumped in a garbage site. Authorities have since launched a search for the child’s parents.
The infant, believed to be only a few days old, was discovered by local residents passing near the dump site. It is suspected that the baby, born without arms and legs, was abandoned on Monday night.
Preliminary investigations have already revealed that the baby was born in a local hospital and had been rejected by her parents.
The baby girl was found wrapped in a piece of cloth and placed inside a bag. Passersby heard faint cries from the child and upon checking, discovered her in the luggage bag.
They immediately informed the area chief, who in turn alerted the police. The officers quickly arrived and rescued the infant.
Chief Charles Namunyu stated that, due to the baby’s condition, it is suspected that the parents abandoned her either during the night or early morning.
According to the detectives, their initial investigation indicates that the baby was born at St. Rafael Mission Hospital in Matisi a few days ago and was rejected by her parents.
“We have discovered that the child was rejected by her parents, and officers from the Children’s Department had to intervene before the mother agreed to breastfeed the child,” Mr. Namunyu revealed.
