A Grade 2 student, Ladona Ashley, has tragically passed away after her family was unable to raise the KSh 1.3 million needed for a life-saving kidney transplant.
The young girl, who had been diagnosed with kidney disease, had been receiving treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret.
Ladona first started experiencing symptoms in February 2024 when she complained of severe stomach aches.
After visiting several hospitals with no clear diagnosis, her family eventually brought her to MTRH, where doctors confirmed that she had kidney disease.
Her condition worsened rapidly, and medical experts gave her only two weeks to live unless she received a kidney transplant.
The recommended transplant surgery was expected to cost KSh 1.3 million, a sum the family could not raise in time.
In addition, Ladona’s family faced mounting hospital bills amounting to KSh 300,000 for her ongoing care, making the situation even more challenging.
Despite their best efforts to raise funds, the family could not afford to cover her dialysis treatments, which led to a buildup of toxins in her body.
Her sister expressed their grief, stating, “We could not afford dialysis for two days, and the toxins in her body were too much. We are heartbroken; we really tried.”
The family is still facing financial burdens and is appealing to the public for help to clear the KSh 300,000 hospital bill.
