Anthony Kinuthia’s quest for a better future turned into a harrowing tale of deceit and tragedy.

The 25-year-old left Nairobi on November 22, 2023 days after his graduation, with hopes of securing a promising IT job in Dubai.

Like many other Kenyans seeking greener pastures in the Gulf, Anthony’s journey was facilitated by an agent from Al Msrieey Global Limited, based in Nairobi.

His family paid Sh 250,000 to the agent, believing this investment would pave the way for a brighter future.

Upon his arrival in Dubai, Anthony was directed to Sharjah, where he expected to begin his new role in data entry, as per his job offer letter.

However, he was stunned to find himself assigned to a different job, one that was illegal under Dubai’s laws.

Anthony’s initial working visa turned out to be a mere one-month visiting visa, plunging him into an even more precarious situation once it expired.

Despite the agent’s assurances that his employer in Dubai would provide a new working visa, this promise never materialized.

Anthony found himself working undercover, trying to make ends meet in a foreign land.

His predicament worsened when the illegal job he was involved in was raided by local authorities.

Along with others, Anthony was arrested and faced deportation.

The circumstances of his arrest took a tragic turn.

On June 29, 2024, while being transported to a police station in Abu Dhabi, Anthony collapsed due to the sweltering heat inside the vehicle.

Efforts to revive him by pouring water on his head proved futile.

“On Saturday, the 29th of June 2024, we received news that Mr. Kinuthia had collapsed before being put in the cells by police in Abu Dhabi. Efforts to save him by pouring water on his head were fruitless,” read a statement from his grieving family.

Anthony’s family, devastated by his untimely death, is now desperately seeking answers.

They have reached out to various authorities in both Kenya and Dubai, hoping to uncover the truth about what happened to their beloved son and brother.

They are appealing to anyone with information about Anthony’s whereabouts after his death to come forward.
