Police in Kakamega County have launched an investigation into the tragic death of a small-scale businesswoman in Kambiri. According to area chief Caleb Natiri, the woman was discovered dead inside her shop on Tuesday, October 1, after reportedly losing KSh 60,000 in a gambling spree on the popular platform Aviator.

Aviator is an online betting platform where users stake money and attempt to cash out before the multiplier crashes. It has gained popularity but has also raised concerns due to the financial risks involved.

The deceased, a frequent user of the platform, reportedly lost a significant amount of money before her death.

Chief Natiri urged Kambiri residents to seek help and express themselves when facing challenges to avoid such tragedies. “To all the Kambiri residents, I urge you to speak up and ask for help if you have problems. Talk to your neighbor. We still don’t have all the details, but investigations are ongoing, and we expect more information to emerge soon,” he said.

A customer who interacted with the businesswoman shortly before her death noticed that she appeared troubled while serving her. The customer’s observations were later corroborated by witnesses who revealed that the deceased had been deeply involved in gambling. One witness claimed that she had been gambling on her phone frequently, with her final bet resulting in a KSh 60,000 loss.

“She used to participate in gambling using her phone, but unfortunately, after losing KSh 60,000, she kept quiet about it, and this seems to have led to her tragic death,” another witness reported.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, with the community being urged to stay vigilant and seek assistance in difficult times.
