Tragedy has struck a family in Bomet County following the untimely death of Felix Kipyegon, a bright student who had just begun his university journey.
Kipyegon, 19, passed away after falling seriously ill while awaiting admission at Kirinyaga University.
The young man, who had recently excelled in his 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, was in line with friends during the registration process when he complained of a severe headache.
His discomfort quickly escalated, and he fainted, prompting immediate medical attention at the university’s dispensary. Unfortunately, his condition worsened, and he was rushed to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital.
At the hospital, doctors diagnosed Kipyegon with bacterial meningitis, a life-threatening condition.
Despite receiving treatment, his health showed no signs of improvement. Desperate for a solution, his family arranged for his transfer to Tenwek Hospital in Bomet.
Tragically, even after aggressive treatment, his health deteriorated further, and he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Kipyegon was later diagnosed with typhoid meningitis, a rare and severe form of the illness, but despite all medical efforts, the promising student lost his battle for life in the ICU.
Kipyegon’s death has left his family devastated, particularly as they had been excited to see him take the next step in his academic journey.
The family is now appealing for financial assistance to cover the medical bills and funeral costs. Well-wishers can send contributions through the provided number, 0745 471 806.
